Annual Viewing of Lost Skeleton of Cadavra

I haven’t updated this blog in a year for tons of awesome reasons (and tons of boring ones, too). Historically, November is the month when all of us who torture ourselves with writing crank up the volume for 30 days of pressure and guilt and still don’t write anything. This year, my first thought when I woke up was to cancel my WordPress account and quit trying at all, but A03 is down for the first two weeks of November and the thought of everyone writing on their own laptops instead of the internet thrills me a little bit. I must be a rebel and write in public in this most dull and dismissed venue: the blog. So let’s do this. First: Updates.

I’ve been a Discord dabbler for a long time (it’s the only place I can reliably find people who will read Victoria Goddard’s The Hands of the Emperor (again, even) every time I want them to). Discord is like Tumblr and LiveJournal formed a poly triad with a 90s message board. I successfully quit all Zuckerberg products, literal years sober, and I even quit Tik Tok. So it was just Discord and Bluesky and that’s it for me. But a couple of my friends still liked to send me cute animal videos on Instagram and it was too hard to watch them without an account, so I secretly revived one of my barely used Instagram accounts that didn’t follow anyone I know. And then Al Gore’s rhythm sent me content from a St. Louis transplant citizen who was trying to talk to Instagram as a way of finding friends. She called herself “Your Elder Millennial Lesbian Bestie” and she posted about going to fancy cocktail bars and being gay and married with kids in St. Louis.

She had a lot of followers, though! So I followed her and kept watching in fascinated horror while her followers started pressing her to start a Discord. And then SHE DID IT. I joined like, the second day it was up? And the rest is kind of a blur. I’ve gone to several in person meet ups with my new besties, and I’ve continued my ongoing efforts to make everyone want to move to St. Louis (ASK ME ABOUT THE HOUSE NEXT DOOR TO MINE THAT IS STILL FOR SALE), but I am also one of two moderators for the Lesbian Besties Club Discord, and if you know me at all, you can take one look at it and see that I’ve definitely happened there. A lot.

So JOIN OUR CULT or don’t, but that’s what I’ve been up to since September.

For the month of November, I’m cultivating my attention span and I’m going to update this blog every Sunday morning. Maybe it’ll be about my DnD adventure party (Hungry Sword Sapphics), maybe it’ll be about our trip to the art museum to see the new women in Impressionism exhibit, maybe it’ll be about practicing banjo again so I can be in the band we’ll form a year from now, WHO KNOWS. The fact is, we’re all in our 40s and nobody gives a shit what we do. Let’s get weird with it. Invisibility is considered a pretty badass power when you’re a kid, I don’t know why it’s not more attractive as an adult. I’m gonna write some stuff, learn some stuff, read some stuff, see some stuff, listen to some stuff and make some stuff and nobody can stop it from happening because they can’t even perceive us!

Saw Josh Johnson’s Band Camp at The Factory last night.
Laine looking accidentally heroic at breakfast yesterday.

Voted at the library on Wednesday. GO VOTE ON TUESDAY. DO IT.
A saucy neighbor’s Halloween decoration.
A hawk just chilling on top of an SUV across the street from my house.
These two gals at the art museum last weekend.
Last week’s Halloween party costumes. Laine was an incredible Vincent Van Gough costume won lots of praise. My traditional Gay Halloween costume was just my regular clothes and carrying around a plastic cowboy boot of popcorn (propcorn) I got while seeing Digger in the theater the week before. I was “Person who just saw the movie Digger and really wants to talk about it.” Nobody at the party had seen the movie. This is not shocking at all.
